Samuel Joseph Drayna, 37, Sauk Centre, was convicted of felony fifth degree drug possession May 17 in Morrison County District Court.

A felony dangerous weapons charge for intentionally firing a firearm and endangering someone was dismissed.

The charges stem from an April 20, 2016 incident, when Drayna called law enforcement to report “three or four vehicles” and “approximately eight” intruders were outside his house.

When officers arrived, nobody was seen outside, and a distraught Drayna came out and stated that there were people in the house that had broken in.

Deputies searched Drayna and found a pipe on him. Another man was found on the premises, who stated that he didn’t think anybody else was on the premises.

As the officers searched the house they allegedly found a loaded shotgun in a bedroom with an ejected shell nearby. It also allegedly appeared that the shotgun had been fired through a door and into the floor. A witness said he was nearby when the gun was fired and his leg was hit with debris.

Drayna admitted that he had smoked methamphetamine. The white residue found in the pipe found on Drayna field-tested positive for meth. Officers believed that Drayna was under the influence of meth and was paranoid.

Drayna was arrested and it was later discovered that he was arrested in Todd County Court on a misdemeanor domestic assault case, and that one of his release conditions was to not possess, transport or use firearms.

Drayna pleaded guilty to the drug possession charge as part of a plea agreement.

Drayna was sentenced to 20 days in jail and was given credit for 20 days served.

He was also sentenced to three years of probation and was fined $135.
