Carlos Vondale Weems, 26, Little Falls was charged in Morrison County District Court Sept. 9, with a felony charge for fleeing from a peace officer in a motor vehicle.

On Aug. 1, a member of the Minnesota State Patrol responded to assist with a domestic assault report in Little Falls.

When a member of the Little Falls Police Department shined his flashlight in the face of the suspect, the suspect allegedly fled in his vehicle.

The State Patrol officer followed the suspect as he allegedly accelerated to between 80 and 90 miles per hour in Little Falls and failed to stop at multiple stop signs.

According to the criminal complaint, the chase ended when the suspect failed to negotiate a curve and struck a stop sign. This sent the vehicle into several rolls, before it hit a large pine tree and was cut into two pieces.

Police allegedly identified the driver as Weems and took him to the hospital to be treated for injuries.

If convicted of the felony for fleeing, Weems faces up to three years and one day in prison, and/or a $5,000 fine.
