Josea Allen Cain, 26, Pierz, was charged Monday with one felony count each of first-degree burglary and receiving stolen property.
According to the criminal complaint, on Feb. 4, law enforcement began investigating reports of vehicle tampering in Pierz.
A witness came to speak to law enforcement and alleged that she was with Cain during two such tampering incidents.
The witness told officers that she had allegedly observed Cain steal several firearms from a residence north of Harding.
The witness was allegedly driving with Cain in the car when he told her to drop him off near Harding.
The witness did so and shortly after, said Cain called and asked to be picked up. When the witnessed picked Cain up from the residence, he had two rifles with him that he allegedly didn’t have when he was dropped off at the residence.
Cain allegedly later made a comment about stealing the guns and hid them in a black tote in the witness’ apartment.
A search of the witness’ apartment found the guns hidden in the tote, as described.
The owner of the residence was then contacted and identified the guns as those that were stolen from a heated workshop on the property.
If convicted, Cain faces up to 20 years in prison and/or $35,000 in fines for the each felony.
