Jonathan James Weyaus, 19, Cass Lake, was charged Jan. 20, with one felony count of fifth-degree possession of hydrocodone.

According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 19, law enforcement on patrol near Highway 10 in Motley observed a vehicle with its windows completely fogged up and the rear license plate obscured by dirt and snow. Upon following the vehicle, the officer observed that the vehicle changed course abruptly and failed to signal a turn when entering a gas station.

The officer initiated a traffic stop and identified the suspect as Weyaus. While speaking with Weyaus, the officer allegedly observed a strong odor of marijuana. When asked where the odor was coming from, Weyaus allegedly did not respond.

The officer observed other passengers in the vehicle had bloodshot, red and watery eyes, consistent with cannabis use.

The officer asked Weyaus to step out of the car, noticing the odor of marijuana coming from his person.

Weyaus allegedly admitted there was a marijuana pipe in the vehicle.

The officer conducted a pat down of Weyaus and found five pills, identified as hydrocodone, a Schedule II controlled substance. Weyaus allegedly said he did not have a prescription for the pills and had received them from a friend.

Weyaus’ vehicle was later searched and found to contain approximately 10 grams of marijuana.

If convicted, Weyaus faces up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.
