Chase Charles Fortier, 20, Little Falls, was convicted Wednesday in Morrison County District Court of one felony count of fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, on April 18, law enforcement on routine patrol along Airport Road observed a subject on a dirt bike with no working lights and very loud exhaust. The officer attempted to stop the bike, but the driver accelerated the bike quickly past other vehicles and onto the Highway 10 overpass.
The officer lost sight of the bike but was able to locate it by its loud exhaust. The driver continued to attempt to evade law enforcement and backup was called.
The dirt bike was later found stuck at the edge of a field with the engine off, tangled in barbed wire.
The driver, identified as Fortier, was placed under arrest for fleeing.
While in custody, Fortier told officers that he would have escaped if his bike hadn’t become stuck.
“You guys suck,” Fortier said. “I would have got away.”
Fortier was given a stay of imposition and sentenced to 30 days in jail, with credit for three days already served, as well as three years probation. He was also fined $185.
