Alex Michael Nelson, 20, Little Falls, was charged Monday with one felony count of fifth-degree possession of heroin.
According to the criminal complaint, Oct. 25, law enforcement on routine patrol on Haven Road observed a vehicle approaching at a high rate of speed, clocked at 56 miles per hour in a 45 mile per hour zone.
The officer stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as Nelson. While speaking with Nelson, the officer detected a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Nelson allegedly admitted he had some marijuana in the car, retrieved a bag of it and turned it over to the officer.
The officer received consent to search the entire vehicle and observed small pieces of aluminum foil on the floor. The officer located Nelson’s wallet and inside was a folded piece of aluminum containing a brown, compressed powder that appeared to be heroin. Nelson allegedly admitted that the heroin belonged to him and he had purchased it for $40.
If convicted, Nelson faces up to five years in prison and/or $10,000 in fines.
