Derrick James Miner, 27, Deerwood, has been convicted in Morrison County District Court of a felony for fleeing police in a motor vehicle and a misdemeanor fifth degree assault charge.

The charges stem from a March 14 incident when the Morrison County Sheriff’s Department received a report of domestic assault.

The victim told officers Miner punched him in the head and put him in a headlock to the point that he couldn’t breathe.

The assault was over a dispute about a cellphone, the victim said.

There was dried blood on the victim’s head where he said Miner had punched him.

After the assault the pair had been driving when the victim noticed officers making another stop. At that point, the victim pulled up behind them and reported the incident.

As Miner was approaching his residence, officers performed a pit maneuver and stopped his vehicle, and placed Miner under arrest.

At the Morrison County Jail, Miner said he had been in an altercation with the victim and that he had put him in a headlock, but denied putting his arms around the victim’s neck.
