Jason Philip Urbanczyk, 36, Bemidji, was convicted in Morrison County District Court Monday, of felony fifth degree controlled substance possession.

The charge stems from a March 25 incident, when a Minnesota state trooper pulled a vehicle over in Motley for having items suspended from the rearview mirror.

When the officer spoke with Urbanczyk, who was sitting in the front passenger’s seat, he allegedly gave a false name to the officer.

The woman driving the vehicle told the officer the man was Urbanczyk and that there were warrants out for his arrest.

A Michigan ID for Urbanczyk was found in a wallet.

Upon searching the car with a K-9 unit, law enforcement found methamphetamine and needles in Urbanczyk’s bag.

Urbanczyk, who has a previous fifth-degree controlled substance conviction from December 2016, was sentenced to 180 days in jail and was given credit for serving 97 days.

He was also sentenced to five years of supervised probation and was fined $135.

A misdemeanor charge for allegedly giving police a false name was dismissed.
