Dallas Jeremiah Torgerson, 32, Leonard, has been charged with two felony counts of possessing firearms or ammunition as a convicted felon. Torgerson is also charged with giving a fake name to a police officer.

The charges stem from an April 12 incident, when an officer with the Royalton Police Department stopped Torgerson’s vehicle for having items suspended from the rearview mirror.

When the officer asked Torgerson for identification, he allegedly said he didn’t have an ID on him and gave a false name to the officer.

Torgerson allegedly said he had just purchased the vehicle, but according to the criminal complaint, due to the  amount of trash and personal belongings in the vehicle, it did not appear to have recently belonged to a dealership.

While trying to write down the VIN number, the officer allegedly noticed a female passenger move a box of ammunition and a wallet with a driver’s license belonging to the driver,

The officer also allegedly noticed a sunglasses case containing drug paraphernalia.

Further search of the vehicle allegedly led to the discovery of a .22 caliber revolver and ammunition, as well as drug paraphernalia, inside a backpack.

The officer also discovered Torgerson’s real identity, and that he is a convicted felon who is prohibited from possessing firearms or ammunition.

Both Torgerson and the passenger had warrants for their arrest.

At the Morrison County Jail, both individuals allegedly told officers the drug paraphernalia and the weapon and ammunition belonged to Torgerson.

If convicted of the felonies, Torgerson faces up to 30 years in prison and/or $60,000 in fines.
