Brun charged with second-degree possession of heroin, pain pills

Travis Dean Brun, 35, Red Lake, was charged Jan. 29 with one felony count of second-degree possession of more than six grams of heroin as well as prescription pain pills.

According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 28, 2016, law enforcement on routine patrol on Highway 10 near Motley observed a vehicle traveling above the posted speed limit.

The suspect vehicle was also observed drifting or weaving over the fog line several times.

An officer conducted a traffic stop, noting that the vehicle travelled on the shoulder for a long distance before finally coming to a stop.

While contacting the occupants, the officer allegedly observed a strong odor of perfume, which he suspected had been sprayed to mask the odor of contraband.

The occupants of the vehicle allegedly had constricted pupils, consistent with use of narcotics.

The driver of the vehicle was identified as Brun, who allegedly admitted to being on probation out of Beltrami County.

The officer obtained permission to search Brun’s vehicle. Inside a backpack Brun allegedly admitted was his were found a digital scale, small baggies, including some with residue, straws, approximately 30 oxycodone pills and 20 clonazepam pills, used meth pipes and five baggies containing a substance identified as heroin.

The total weight of heroin found was 16 grams.

If convicted, Brun faces between three and 40 years in prison and/or $500,000 in fines.
