Michael Richard Burrows, 39, Motley, was convicted Wednesday in Morrison County District Court of one felony count each of making terroristic threats and recklessly discharging a firearm in a municipality.
According to the criminal complaint, on July 19 at approximately 2:13 a.m., law enforcement received a report of a disturbance in Motley. Officers found that there had been a fight at a party and shots had been fired.
Officers stopped a vehicle leaving the party. The driver of the vehicle said she had been at the party and identified Burrows as being in possession of a 9mm pistol.
Officers located Burrows in the back of the residence and he admitted to having a handgun, which was located and found to be loaded, but with no bullet in the chamber. Burrows admitted that he did not have a permit for the gun.
In a statement, Burrows said that he was at a neighbor’s residence and got into a fight. He said he returned to his own residence, removed the gun from a safe and took it onto the porch, where he yelled over to the people at the other residence, telling them to leave. He said he fired three rounds in the air to scare the people away, admitting that he was intoxicated and what he did was wrong.
Another individual at the party said in a statement to police that she felt threatened by Burrows’ behavior and was in fear for her safety.
Burrows was given a stay of imposition and sentenced to 45 days in jail with credit for three days already served and five years supervised probation. He was also fined $85.
