Spencer Robert Stiller, 43, Little Falls, was convicted July 29 in Morrison County District Court of one felony count of domestic assault.
According to the criminal complaint, on Jan. 24, law enforcement received a report of a domestic altercation. The victim stated she was assaulted by Stiller and the officer noted there was a mark on her face that appeared red and swollen.
Stiller was apprehended while leaving the residence, holding a small child, the mutual child of him and the victim. He admitted he had been in an argument with the victim and slapped her across the face.
In a statement, the victim said she and Stiller got into an argument and that Stiller had shoved her onto the couch. She had been holding the child in her left arm and Stiller bent her right wrist backward against the couch while asking if she wanted him to break her arm.
Stiller had his other hand against her throat, making it difficult for her to breathe and speak.
The victim said Stiller then grabbed their child and tried to take him away, at which point he slapped her across the face.
Stiller’s criminal history shows a previous conviction for domestic assault in Morrison County in 2013 and a similar conviction in Clearwater County in 2006.
Stiller was sentenced to 21 months in prison, stayed for five year, 30 days in jail with credit for 24 days already served and five years probation. He was also fined $135.
Stiller had one felony count of domestic assault by strangulation dismissed as part of a plea bargain.
