Eddie Ray Ackward, 65, Little Falls, was charged Monday with one felony count of second-degree assault with a knife.
According to the criminal complaint, on Aug. 1, Little Falls police officers were dispatched to a residence for a report of a possible assault. The victim stated that he was assaulted by Ackward, who had allegedly pulled a knife on him and threatened him with it.
Ackward also allegedly punched the victim in the nose, at which point the victim put Ackward in a choke hold and took him to the ground to restrain him. A third party then intervened and took the knife away from Ackward, the victim said.
In a statement, Ackward allegedly said that the victim had been getting mouthy about not picking up his things. Ackward said he wanted to show the victim he was serious and took a switchblade knife off his belt. Ackward allegedly stated he made jabbing motions toward the victim’s chest and held the knife to the victim’s throat.
Ackward stated he did not want to harm the victim but was simply trying to get his point across.
Ackward said he then put the knife down when the victim started making a move toward him and punched the victim, after which the victim punched Ackward, jumped on his back and choked him.
If convicted, Ackward faces up to seven years imprisonment and/or $14,000 in fines.
